About Us
A Brief History of Our Service
Macgregor Primary School OSHC has been under the diligent care of the Macgregor P & C Association since its inception in 1981.
Over the years, the service has been overseen by a dedicated lineup of leaders, including Carol Middleton, Maudie Timmiss, Chris Baker, Sharon Hooper and Eileen Nilsson. Currently directed by Stacey Jorgensen for the past 8 years.
What sets our service apart is the strong connection we have with our community. Many of our team members are former Macgregor Primary School students, and some are even pursuing careers in teaching while working with us. We see our continued operation as a vital contribution to the enduring strength and cohesion of the Macgregor Community. In fact, we are one of the few P & C-administered childcare services still thriving in West Belconnen.
Our success is made possible by the unwavering dedication of our Coordinator, Committee members, P & C Treasurer, and President – all of whom are parents generously volunteering their precious time to ensure the smooth operation of our program.
Our Journey of Excellence
Our service has proudly served our community since 1981, consistently delivering high-quality care as recognised by the National Childcare Accreditation Council (NCAC).
In September 2018, we achieved an outstanding rating of 'Meeting the National Quality Standards' during our Assessment and Ratings process, reaffirming our commitment to providing top-notch care and maintaining the highest standards of quality."
In 2021 we were the recipients of a Childrens Week Award (citation below)
Macgregor Primary’s Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) service is one of the few P&C administered services operating in the ACT. Staff foster children’s emotional wellbeing, develop social and communication skills as well as provide highly stimulating and engaging educational activities with an emphasis on fun! As such, there is a focus on play activities that encourage children to meet new friends and engage in new experiences whilst building quality relationships. Macgregor OSHC is led by two highly skilled and experienced educators, Eileen Nilsson and Stacey Jorgensen, who model inclusion, cultural integrity and the provision of opportunities for children to learn through play within a warm, safe and nurturing environment. For example, the school hall has been transformed into ‘Diagon Alley’, a ‘Christmas in July’ snow party, a life sized ‘Pokemon’ game and on the 4th of May ‘Star Wars’ activities. These are just some examples of the whimsical and fun activities provided that share joy, build community, contribute to each child’s wellbeing and create memories. As the service is managed by the Macgregor P&C Association, there is a commitment to keeping daily financial charges low to support the families that the service is provided for. In addition, the service has evolved over the last couple of years to include a preschool OSHC service and provision of a vacation care service. These extensions to the service have been provided to respond to the needs of the community it serves. OSHC also works in partnership with the school in providing resources. For example in 2020, fixed playground equipment that cost tens of thousands of dollars was purchased and installed in the playground, through a three-way partnership project with the School Board and P&C Association. Although OSHC is a business, more importantly, the team led by Eileen and Stacey welcomes children into the OSHC family providing an inclusive, quality, fun program that allows the children to choose how their time will be spent to foster a sense of ownership and belonging.
